Steve Barnes, corporate marketing manager at ABTA, said that one couple had "just come back from a five week holiday in Egypt and now they're just planning another holiday in India, so they're certainly far more adventurous than they would have been years ago".
"But if you've never been abroad before then you would probably start with Spain, which is Britain's favourite," he added.
Active participation in fun events was named as the primary reason for people taking holidays in the Kuoni Longhaul Report 2009.
