Cheap broadband rise in Europe
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of cheap broadband deals.There has been a considerable rise in the amount of cheap broadband deals being taken out by people in Europe, a new report has indicated.
A report called the EU Broadband Scorecard from the European Competitive Telecommunications Association (ECTA) has revealed that the number of cheap broadband connections in the European Union increased by 20 per cent in 2008.
There are now 110.5 million people in the EU with the internet via broadband, which makes up 22.5 per cent of Europe's total population.

However, ECTA has called for more regulation of broadband providers and a faster upgrade to next generation services.
Innocenzo Genna, chairman of ECTA, said: "Light touch regulation has not worked in the banking sector and there is no reason to assume it will work to consumers' benefit in telecoms."
A meeting between the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers is set to take place to discuss broadband issues within Europe.
