Cheap broadband users hanging on to PCs

While people cannot do without the internet and cheap broadband deals continue to prove popular, new PCs are not flying off the shelves, according to ThinkGrid.
The business IT firm suggested that people are looking to make the most out of the computers they already own rather than splashing out on new goods.

Rob Lovell, chief executive of ThinkGrid, said: "The economic downturn means that people are probably a little bit smarter with their cash, trying to extend the life of their existing hardware through a number of means, trying to avoid spending capital where it is not necessary.
"It's changing and there's a general downturn and the economic downturn has certainly pushed it forward."
New research from Gartner has predicted that 257 million units of PCs will be shipped this year, but this is 11.9 per cent lower than in 2008.
