Cheap mobile deals more likely with PAYG
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs. Providers of price comparison for cheap international calls.Due to the impact of the credit crunch upon purse strings, increasing numbers of phone users are looking to save themselves money by changing their tariff to pay as you go (PAYG).
Research from Post Office Telecoms revealed that 6.5 million users are considering the switch while 750,000 people are already in the process of making the move to a cheap mobile deal.
The study showed that currently 54 per cent of the mobile phone market is accounted for PAYG customers but this could rise to 65 per cent if those thinking about making the change take action.
Pay As You Go - Great Savings
Martin Moran, head of telecoms at the Post Office, said: "Clearly people are being mindful of their finances during difficult times, and taking control of their spending by switching to more manageable options for mobile phone costs."
He added that in some branches there are record numbers of people topping up their phones.
A previous study from Juniper Research showed that smartphones are to become more popular with a 95 per cent rise in their sales between 2008 and 2013.
