Cheap international calls on volunteering holidays

Many of these volunteering holidays come about as a response to media campaigns to help specific causes, according to i-to-i.
It suggested that there has been a considerable increase in these due to celebrities promoting awareness of world issues.
People who go on these trips are likely to make cheap international calls to let those left back home know they are safe and well.

Bruce Haxton, operations director at i-to-i, said: "Since Live Aid a couple of years ago and all of the awareness raising celebrities have done in relation to Africa, we've seen a big spike in people wanting to travel to Africa.
"When there are different initiatives through the media on different parts of the world, young people respond to that and rather than putting their hands in their pocket, they want to go out and do something about it themselves."
Research from the Environmental Transport found that 80 per cent of people who would like to choose a green holiday want more information on them.
