Proposals for 'faster, better' mobile broadband
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of cheap broadband deals.Ofcom has made proposals to trigger "faster, better" mobile broadband in the UK, following a new consultation meeting.
The telecoms watchdog has suggested that liberalising spectrum for mobile phone services could result in more efficiency.
In its initial consultation, Ofcom is proposing to free up the spectrum by removing conditions that are placed upon 2G and 3G licences stating how they should be used.
This would allow them to be utilised for a wider range of purposes, which could result in faster mobile broadband on pay as you go and other phones.

Released spectrum is expected to be auctioned by Ofcom in the summer next year, subject to the consultation.
Meanwhile, Ofcom has revealed it expects more European legislation to set up a framework for liberalising spectrum bands later this year.
The take-up of mobile broadband has increased rapidly since Ofcom published its initial consultation, with more than two million dongles being sold in Britain.
