The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) has suggested that holidays should be positioned this way in order to emphasize international travel as a reward.
Many holidaymakers make cheap international calls to friends and relax while on their breaks, but others will be worried about saving money.
How to make cheap International Calls
Mark Stuart, head of research at the CIM, said that thinking of holidays as rewards would make it easier for people to put such concerns out of their heads.
"Position a foreign holiday as a treat that you should allow yourself," he stated.
"Rather than feeling you have to cut back, reward yourself with a holiday to escape the everyday grind of the downturn."
Activities Abroad took the fun-loving approach to marketing holidays to the extreme by claiming tongue-in-cheek that "chavs" would be banned from its breaks.
