The current economic climate is contributing to this as people are viewing luxury breaks as "a necessity", according to the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO).
Cheap international calls from locations further away from the UK are likely as people choose to take holidays in the likes of South Africa and Thailand.
Kate Kenward, executive director at AITO, stated that long haul holidays "have always been popular" but not to this extent.
How to make cheap International Calls
"A long haul holiday is on everybody's wish list and holidays now are more of a necessity than a luxury.
"People think about long hauls because they do make an impact, you are doing something special."
Royal Mail Group's Post Office Holiday Costs Barometer has revealed that Thailand is the cheapest destination to head to currently, with Spain the least costly in the Eurozone.
