Using cheap pay as you go mobiles in hospital 'safe'

However, experts from Techworld have suggested that cheap pay as you go mobiles should be allowed.
John Dudd, editor of Techworld, said that they would be very unlikely to have any effect on equipment.
"It should be safe to use a mobile phone in hospitals. The overwhelming majority of sensitive equipment is shielded and the user would be too far away to cause interference on current phones, which are lower power than older analogue ones," he said.

Nevertheless, he expressed doubts that patients will be able to utilise their cheap mobile deals at all times in hospitals.
The Department of Health has recommended lifting the ban on mobile phones in hospitals.
However, The Patients Association has responded to this by stating: "Hospitals are not hotels or holiday camps. People are only there because they are sick and need care."
