The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) believes that holidaymakers are now looking for value for money as they are becoming more clued up about their breaks.
Ray Jones, spokesperson for the CIM, said: "They will be looking for good deals, comfort and what social networking sites are saying.
"Word of mouth has gone electric. The purchaser is becoming much more discerning and therefore, the supplier has to make sure their product is first class."
A Whatsonwhen and Travolution survey in September found that 50 per cent of the travel companies questioned were looking to increase their internet advertising budgets.
