Brits 'embrace culture' when on international travel trips

People making cheap calls to Spain are likely to find their friends or relatives soaking up the atmosphere and getting involved in local traditions and practices , according to research from Saga.
More than half of British holidaymakers try new food, while 63 per cent of over fifties and 48 per cent of under fifties have made new friends while taking a break.

Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga, said: "It's good to see that people enjoy themselves when abroad and embrace the local culture."
There is also more concern for sport and less for the environment when on holiday, with 11 per cent trying out extreme sports, but 30 per cent admitting to letting eco-standards slip while on holiday.
The Campaign for Transport has urged for cheaper public transport to keep more people holidaying in the UK.
