Travelling abroad a 'necessity'

It is not a luxury to take a holiday travelling abroad or around the UK, it is a necessity, according to travel industry experts.
The Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) has suggested that, regardless of expense, holidays are seen as essential parts of British life.
Ian Bradley, public relations officer at AITO, commented that the current economic climate is pushing people into thinking "I'm going to get away, not matter what".

"Probably the biggest annual expenditure is a holiday. It's really being viewed as a necessity rather than a luxury."
People could choose to make cheap calls to China and arrange a break in the Far East, where this year's Olympics triggered a boom in tourism.
More than half or respondents to an ebookers.com survey indicated that they view a holiday as either extremely important or an absolute necessity, with just 12 per cent defining a break as a luxury.
