It is a legal requirement for companies to provide people with paid holidays, so people should take advantage of them by travelling abroad or simply getting away from it all.
That is the view of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), which has suggested that having time off from work keeps people in the right mental and physical state to perform well when they are present.
Writing for the BBC, TUC general secretary Brendan Barber commented that the minimum entitlement for holidays is 4.8 weeks per year, which gives plenty of time for an international travel break.

"Whether we choose to broaden our horizons and go away or simply stay at home and spend some time with our friends and family, it is good to get away from the daily routine of work for a while," he stated.
"Holidays play an essential part in keeping us fit for work. We all need to recharge our mental and physical batteries from time to time."
The TUC represents nearly seven million people in the UK and defines itself as the "voice of Britain at work".
