Streaming affects home broadband

However, this is affecting both the speed and quality of home broadband, as apparent 'unlimited usage' deals are tested, experts have claimed.
UK Web Media has suggested that next generation fibre could help cheap broadband cope better with streaming services, while download limits may also have to be increased.

Thomas Newton, a mobile phone and broadband expert from the firm, commented that problems "will eventually become a thing of the past" as the technology improves.
"The iPlayer has already tested the limits of several so-called 'unlimited' usage plans, which has seen customers having to pay extra for exceeding fair use policies, and, in some extreme cases, temporarily lose access to broadband services altogether," he said.
New services from Virgin Media and Orange are also expected to deal with the issue.
