British tourists are not willing to give up their holidays if it is at all possible, travel agents have claimed.
Unlike in many other countries, Brits view holidays, especially travelling abroad for international travel breaks, as essential parts of their life.
That is according to the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), which has suggested that the UK travel market is proving to be particularly resilient in the current economic climate.

A spokesman for the ABTA commented: "We regard a holiday, certainly going abroad, as an essential rather than a luxury these days.
"That's the main reason. We've been going abroad in large numbers since the 1970's and for most people it's something they don't regard as a luxury anymore."
More than half of all UK holidaymakers that have travelled abroad in the last year have done so on package holidays, according to a Thompsons and First Choice Trends report for 2008-2009.
