Mobile network providers fight spam with consumers

Subscribers to networks can help firms such as 3, T Mobile and O2 to beat spammers by pinpointing fraudulent messages, according to Airwide Solutions.
Chris Lennartz, vice president of product marketing at Airwide Solutions, commented that mobile phones can battle spam in different ways compared with the internet and that cooperation was the key.

"In the PC world you have software to fight worms and viruses, but from a mobile perspective there are hundreds and hundreds of mobile phones," he said.
He added that mobile network operators can "work with subscribers themselves to block messages that they think are fraudulent, because subscribers can detect themselves if they would like a message from a certain party or not".
Research from M:Metrics has found that people in Britain spend more on mobile content than any other EU country.
