People 'more aware' of pay as you go phone capabilities

That is according to ABI Research, which has suggested that smartphones are paving the way for people to try out new applications and use mobile internet more.

While people are still likely to use their phones to make low cost international calls in the future, Dominique Bonte, research director for telematics and navigation at ABI Research, believes they will increasingly be used for innovations such as GPS.
"There certainly is quite a bit of hype around it. People are starting to become more aware that their phones allow GPS and you can do a lot more with your phone than call or send a text," he said.
"I think it will still take a few years but it will really spread into the mass market then."
Entertainment Media Research has revealed that 62 per cent of people have the internet on their mobile.
