Pay as you go mobile payments 'at beginning'

However, the technology is developing well and technical and practical issues are not getting in the way of growth, according to Juniper Research.
Howard Wilcox, senior analyst at the telecoms analyst firm, said that problems such as a lack of reader infrastructure "aren't roadblocks" and the time and money saving technology could become widespread in the future.
Pay As You Go - Great Savings
"These are all issues that are faced at the moment but they aren't roadblocks." he commented.
"Mobile payments are very much at the beginning of their life. As a proportion of total consumer spend globally of all types cash, debit cards, credit cards and so on - mobile payments will remain a low single digit percentage even by 2013."
Juniper's Mobile Payments Study in September 2008 suggested that by 2013 more than £3.5 billion could be generated worldwide from mobile transactions.
