Airlines look to international calling benefits

According to a new report from the International Telecommunication Union, more than 90 per cent or airline passengers use their mobiles to keep in touch with home.
British Airways planning and innovations manager Chris Carmichael told FlightGlobal: "Mobile is a huge opportunity for us in travel. By the very nature of it, a lot of our customers spend a lot of time away from their desks and their personal computers."
Cheap Calls to Pakistan using your mobile
While people will use their mobile phones to make cheap calls to Pakistan and other destinations, airlines are now starting to offer check-in services via the devices.
Qantas manager of product and service strategy, Stephanie Tully, explained to the website: "Domestic customers electing to receive their boarding pass on their mobile phone or portable device can have a paperless experience, from booking, to check-in to boarding."
A do-it-yourself check-in system goes live for passengers travelling with Air New Zealand from the start of next week.
