Gaming craze incites cheap mobile calls to Poland

The popularity of a new games portal could cause people in the UK to make cheap mobile calls to Poland in order to find out what all the fuss is about.

SkillPod Media is behind the games portal of Gadu Gadu, which is Poland's biggest social networking site.

There are a huge number of games available to be played and they are proving particularly popular in many areas of Europe.

Mark van Diggelen, chief executive of SkillPod Media, commented: "Not only is it an important expansion into the eastern European market for us, but it was also a really enjoyable challenge.

"We translated 100 games into Polish, and will be adding ten new games each month."

Bingo and poker games are among those available and people in the UK who play them may want to make low-cost international calls to friends and relatives in the country to compare scores and tactics.

A large marketing move is being made by Polish soft drink firm Maspex Wadowice to break the UK market, with Poland's market leader set to sell its products in Asda supermarkets.
