Worldwide mobile penetration to increase

From 46 per cent this year, penetration is expected to rise to 95 per cent within the next five years in 34 countries analysed by Tariff Consultancy Ltd.
Cheap calls to China will be more likely as it is among the countries expected to increase in mobile penetration, along with India, Brazil, Vietnam and Afghanistan.
There are already 2.1 billion mobile users in the 34 countries, which Tariff describe as "emerging markets", but this could grow to 4.3 billion users by 2013.
Margrit Sessions, the firm's managing director, commented: "The rapid growth of mobile penetration across the world indicates that these markets will approach maturity more quickly than previously thought.
"By the end of 2013 we are likely to see one SIM card for every person as the norm in most countries."
In the next three years, the ROA group expects there to be 121 million mobile users in Japan alone.
