The Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot C905 phone comes complete with the 'NearMe' application, an innovation from Mobile Commerce that allows people to find what they are looking for in their surrounding area.
Unlike the grander scale of the likes of Google Maps, NearMe is a localised service, finding details of the immediate position people find themselves in, such as local businesses, veues and events.
Sony Ericsson will provide the application for free on the phone and it can also find content regarding gig listings, pubs and cinemas, with detailed recommendations and directions.
David Hilton, head of marketing for Sony Ericsson UK and Ireland, commented: "Creating a Java application with best of breed content was a key objective to showcase our GPS handsets to our prime target market.
"We are delighted with the NearMe application and have already defined a roadmap of enhancements to bring even more functionality and choice to our customers."
Sony Ericsson has recently been confirmed as the official mobile sponsor of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, a role T-Mobile had four years ago.
