Old Google search index relaunched
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of cheap broadband deals.People with cheap broadband can enjoy the nostalgia of revisiting the way the internet was seven years ago thanks to Google's relaunch of an old search index.
In celebration of Google's tenth birthday, the company has made its 2001 search index available online, where people can find out how much has changed since then.
A Google statement read: "The world wide web and the world have both changed a lot since 2001. Searching Google's 2001 index illustrates both points in what we think is a pretty entertaining way.
"If you searched on 'Michael Phelps' in 2001 for instance, you were probably looking for the scientist, not the swimmer, 'iPod' didn't refer to a music player, and 'YouTube' didn't refer to much of anything."
The search index is the oldest one accessible and web users can also visit websites in their old format though the tool, but it will only be available for one month.
In order to compete with Google, rival search engine Ask has undergone more widespread changes, following its decision to drop its famous butler in 2006.
