Broadband users top 16 million
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of cheap broadband deals.More than 16 million people in the UK now have cheap broadband connections, according to new figures from Ofcom.
The communications watchdog revealed in a new report that in the first quarter of this year, there were 16.2 million broadband connections in Britain.
This is an increase of 592,000 connections since the fourth quarter of 2007.
Growing popularity of mobile internet may affect the number of people getting regular broadband, but many experts believe both sectors will continue to increase user numbers.
Virgin are the latest company to embrace wireless broadband, with the Richard Branson-owned company working as a virtual operator, as it is tied in with T-Mobile.
Earlier this summer, Simon Bransfield-Garth of Carrier IQ, commenting on mobile operators, commented: "Their pricing plans make no sense to me. I think the carriers have little or no idea of what people do with mobile broadband."
However, advancement has been fast, with people using iPhones in particular more likely to spend time using mobile internet services.
