Mobile music could 'transform' the industry
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs. Providers of price comparison for cheap international calls. The move by many mobile operators into the music market could signal significant changes to both sectors, research has shown.
As many as 2.1 billion music tracks could be downloaded from the new Sony Eriksson and Nokia music portals, according to TNS.
Over one third of consumers would be interested in mobile music, which could be money saving as people are expected to reduce the amount they spend on other music formats.
Also, 38 per cent of people who download illegally suggested they would cut down if they had Nokia's new 'Comes With Music', or similar packages.
Amy Cashman, managing director of TNS Technology, said: "This research clearly underscores the powerful latent consumer demand for mobile music availability - which if successfully fulfilled will transform the way that people buy music as well as reducing illegal downloads."
In the UK, 45 per cent of CD enthusiasts indicated they would buy less CDs, while 47 per cent of downloaders stated their online buying would increase, Cellular-News reports.
