Broadband boost for Scottish sailors
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs. Providers of price comparison for cheap international calls. The appeal of Scotland's canals is set to be boosted as a new initiative has been announced to provide broadband on a number of areas across the Scottish waterways.
High speed wireless connections will soon be available in 13 hotspots along Scottish canals, allowing people to access cheap broadband while they laze around by the waterside.
A partnership between BT and British Waterways Scotland is behind the scheme, which will affect canals from the Lowlands' Bowling Basin to Dochgarroch East.
Richard Millar of British Waterways Scotland said: "We are pleased to be able to offer our customers this additional service at various locations on our canals.
"These new services will greatly benefit everyone who visits, lives or works close to the canal. These Wi-Fi hotspots will widen the opportunities the canal has to offer our users and services we provide."
Over 1,300 transiting boats sail along the Caledonian canal, one of those set to receive broadband, each year from as far afield as Scandinavia.
