Expats spend 'more on mobiles than food'

The use of technology such as mobile phones has grown considerably among Asian expats, with 40 per cent making low cost international calls to keep in touch with family and friends, a survey from Vyke Communications has found.
Surprisingly, the research suggested that more male expats are likely to call friends rather than phone their partners.
Food is also deemed less of a priority than making cheap calls to international mobiles for men aged between 16 and 24. However, women spend more on their mobiles, the survey claims.
The need for mobile phones is highlighted by 53 per cent of expats in London calling their friends on a regular basis.
Sourav Ganguly, the Indian cricketing legend is another who cannot do without his phone, stating: "Travelling globally, playing cricket, keeping in touch with my family back in Calcutta costs a small fortune."
