Peek takes smartphones back to basics
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs. Providers of price comparison for cheap international calls.A new device is gearing up to enter the smartphone market with one crucial difference it only sends emails.
Reminiscent of the original BlackBerry models, the Peek will not include any gadgets or extras and will be used purely for email.
It is being billed as the alternative for people who are put off by the seemingly endless features of smartphones.
However, as well as not including extras now taken for granted like cameras and cheap broadband, it also doesn't provide phone calls.
The minimalist approach is garnering a positive reception from some analysts and is a good money saving option at just $100 (£57), with a $20 (£11) monthly service charge and no contract.
However, by not offering anything except email, it may get pushed aside by the likes of Samsung's new feature-heavy Omnia.
A recent Ofcom report suggested 1.4 million people are unhappy with their phone services, suggesting this return to lower technology could be well-timed.
