News brought to you by Skint Tariffs. Providers of price comparison for cheap international calls.More and more people in the UK are embracing iPhones, with sales of the handset estimated to be at 27,000 per week.
When the 3G iPhone was launched two months ago, 50,000 of the product were sold in each of the first two weeks.
Sales were expected to drop considerably after the initial buzz, but now the smartphone is commanding between four and six per cent of the entire handset market, Mobile Today reports.
O2 has been prominent in the product's success, running numerous promotions as it attempts to maintain its partnership with Apple, the phone's makers.
An O2 spokeswoman commented: "We have a strong relationship with Apple and they are pleased with the sales of the iPhone to date."
There is a growing trend for cheap Pay As You Go mobiles, which, along with the continuing popularity contracts, could be contributing to the number of sales of the phone.
