Through the O2 Wallet scheme, NFC allowed participants to travel on London's transport system as well as use credit cards all just by utilising their mobile.
O2 commented that 90 per cent of people would happily use NFC again, but admitted 85 per cent wanted a wider range of handsets.
"This trial takes us one step forward to achieving this by demonstrating that people want the convenience and practical benefits offered by services like the O2 Wallet," said O2's head of NFC, Clair Maslen.
"Imagine going out for the night and only taking your mobile phone with you."
Security issues are a major concern for any future rollout of NFC, but participants were also concerned about money saving and impressed by the increased simplicity of the scheme.
