Consumers consulted on mobile industry shake-up
Communications watchdog Ofcom is asking consumers for their opinion on mobile phone regulation in the UK. It is hoped that the consultation will make certain that consumers are protected while ensuring competition remains strong.
"Mobile communication is now a central feature of modern life. As our flourishing mobile sector evolves, we want to help maintain strong competition and innovation alongside consumer protection," said Ed Richards, Ofcom's chief executive.
"With significant market and technology developments underway, now is the right time to ask some tough questions about the future approach to regulation. We look forward to a wide ranging debate on these issues."
Ofcom is hoping for written responses to the consultation from members of the public as well as better use of blogs such as the one recently set up by the regulator on the issue of mobile communications.
Interested parties can also respond by email but all responses must be in by the closing date of November 6th 2008.
