Reuters reports that T-Mobile USA will, however, be the first provider to launch a mobile handset using the Android software, with the first sales anticipated for between October and Christmas, according to the New York Times.
High Tech Computer Corp has been named as the company which will make the smartphone.
According to Reuters, the Android smartphone will "challenge" the iPhone from Apple along with other such smartphones from companies such as Research in Motion and Microsoft.
T-Mobile and Google have not yet commented on the reports.
