News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of cheap broadband deals.Facebook is continuing to prove a huge hit with people using cheap internet, with the social networking site the most searched for term in the UK, research has shown.
One in 72 searches is for Facebook, placing it ahead of fellow social networks Myspace and Bebo in a Hitwise, an Experian company, list of the most searched for terms during May.
Branded terms are becoming increasingly popular with cheap broadband users, who are shunning generic terms and searching for specifics instead.
Of the 2,000 most popular searches, 88 per cent of them were for brands, an increase from 65 per cent three years ago.
Robin Goad, research director of Hitwise, commented: The growth of branded search in the UK poses an important question for brand owners: where is branded search traffic actually going?
"Much of this branded search is navigational in nature people type a brand name into a search engine or browser toolbar with the clear intention of navigating to a particular site."
The BBC had two websites in the top ten most searched for terms, while eBay, YouTube and Amazon all featured prominently.
