Twitter drops text service

It will still be available in other countries, so people making cheap international calls in countries like the US and India can brag to their friends back home about their Twittering.
However, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone explained that due to the large amount of money the company was spending on keeping the service running, it has been stopped until a new deal with mobile operators can be reached.
"It pains us to take this measure. However, we need to avoid placing undue burden on our company and our service," he told the Guardian.
"Even with a limit of 250 messages received per week, it could cost Twitter about $1,000 (£500) per user, per year to send SMS outside of Canada, India, or the US. It makes more sense for us to establish fair billing arrangements with mobile operators than it does to pass these high fees on to our users."
Twitter had 2,200,000 registered users by last month and this figure is expected to continue to grow.
