UK 'close to' e-voting
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of cheap broadband deals.People already use cheap broadband for an enormous range of purposes, but soon voting could be added to the list, new research indicates.
The UK is closest to being in a position to adopt electronic voting out of 31 countries compared by the Austrian Competence Centre for Electronic Voting and Participation.
With 27 EU member countries, plus the US and Russia, involved in the research, the results show the UK's advancement when it comes to the internet and a readiness to embrace the changing technological climate.
Britain was closely followed by the US in terms of e-voting readiness, with Estonia third and Holland fourth.
The report's authors, Robert Krimmer and Ronald Schuster, commented that the UK had came out on top because of its "excellent" legal environment, adding; "We found no restrictions in the electoral law".
In the past, e-voting has been heavily criticised for being too easy to sabotage and not accessible to all voters.
