Ikea moves into mobile market
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs. Providers of price comparison for cheap international calls.Ikea, the home furnishing company, is making a move into the mobile phone market, it has been revealed.
The Swedish retail giant is set to join forces with T-Mobile to issue Pay As You Go (PAYG) mobile SIM cards, with all of its 9,500 UK staff getting handsets and £5 worth of calls later this week.
With the SIM expected to offer the lowest PAYG costs, cheap international calls could soon be made through Ikea's own brand.
At 6p for a text and 9p per minute flat rate calls, the 'Family Mobile' tariff will be available to all 1.4 million members of the firm's 'Ikea Family' customer loyalty scheme.
Jason Baker, IKEA UK customer relationship marketing manager, commented: "In the current climate where every penny counts, IKEA is offering another benefit to our loyal customers.
"You can't control the rising costs of petrol, utility bills or food but by being at least 25 per cent cheaper than any other comparable Pay As You Go offer, Family Mobile can help you take control of your mobile phone costs."
Similar customer loyalty mobile phone schemes have been launched by Tesco, Asda and Carphone Warehouse.
