High end LG phones sell more
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of price comparison for cheap international calls. Mobile users who want to make cheap international calls in style have contributed to the growth in earnings of South Korean electronics firm LG.
The handset maker has reported that its quarterly earnings have jumped 84 per cent compared to the same period a year ago.
In the quarter to July, it earned 706.9 billion Chinese won (£347.8 million) compared to 384.6 billion a year ago.
Consumers eager for its stylish high-end handsets helped the firm reach sales of 27.7 million mobile phones.
Among the models leading the charge were the Secret, Vewty and Venus phones.
Its operating profit margin on phone handsets was 14.4 per cent for the second quarter, ahead of results for the first three months of the year when the figure was 13.9 per cent.
But the news was not the same for all manufacturers.
Sony Ericsson, which has handsets that are also distributed through mobile phone network providers on skinttariffs.com, experienced a drop in demand for its priciest phones.
