Chess and hip hop merge for internet users
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of cheap broadband deals.Broadband customers can for the first time indulge in the twin pursuits of hip-hop and chess.
The Wu Tang Clan has created a unique space where chess aficionados who are also hip hop fans can battle it out in online games on "the 64 squares".
Members of WuChess, perhaps the only place to address the low street credibility of the ancient game, can watch exhibition games with hip-hop stars such as RZA and other Wu-Tang members.
As well as exposing members to the world of hip-hop grandees, the site will feature tips from chess masters.
Instead of bishops and pawns, the chess pieces are based around the ninja motif, which the hip-hop act uses in its artwork and publicity.
The site boasts that players can partake in tournaments for prizes or play chess "just for the joy of flexin' ya mentals".
Membership fees in part go towards scholarships for children and in return for signing up, players can take part in frolics like the RZA Chess Rhyme Challenge.
At the Wu O2 show, rapper Ghostface Killah invited audience members backstage to a game.
