Batman fans who have been teased by the online Dark Knight trailers, will be amused to hear that a study into the possibility of a real life caped crusader is soon to be published.

The trailer, viewable by broadband customers on various video sites, showed the Batman we have all come to know- a superhero without superpowers.

In that respect Batman is unique, and to some extent a more realistic depiction of a crime fighter.

One academic has studied the possibility of one person becoming as adept at hunting down baddies as Gotham's finest.

E Paul Zehr, associate professor of kinesiology and neuroscience at the University of Victoria in British Columbia is to publish Becoming Batman: The Possibility of a Superhero.

He estmates that while the athletic ability, which illustrator Neal Adams said would see Batman secure a podium place in every Olympic sport, was realistic, the ability to take on ten enemies simultaneously was less likely.

Speaking to Scientific American, he also estimated that it would take ten or 12 years to achieve the degree of physical prowess that alter ego Bruce Wayne has.
