Mobile internet 'reaches critical mass'
A "critical mass" of people are using mobile internet, with the service more popular in the UK than anywhere else except the US, according to a new report.The UK has 12.9 percent of subscribers using mobile internet and vistit 5.5 websites per month on average, as people use their mobiles for broadband as well as cheap international calls.
The report by analysts Nielsen Mobile also revealed they expect the growth to continue, as the firm's director of insights believes more user friendly handsets and high-speed networks will keep demand high.
"The adoption and the experience are improving at an impressive rate," he said.
The iPhone, which launches its new 3G model today, is extremely fashionable for mobile browsers as 82% of iPhone owners access the mobile internet, a figure five times higher than the average mobile consumer.
However, Nokia remain the market leader for handsets using mobile internet, with the Nokia N70 and N95 topping the list of most popular handsets.
