Just 3% recycle mobile phone

Only three per cent of mobile phone users world wide recycle their phones, according to a new survey by handset maker Nokia.
The survey, which interviewed 6,500 people from 13 countries, also revealed that 73 per cent of phone users have not even considered either finding a way for their phone to be reused or recycled.
"It is clear from this survey that when mobile devices finally reach the end of their lives...very few of them are recycled," Markus Terho, Nokia's director of environmental affairs, said.
"Many people are simply unaware that these old and unused mobiles lying around in drawers can be recycled or how to do this," he added.
Terho estimated that three billion people around the globe own mobile phones, adding that if each of them brought back just one of their handsets, the industry could save 240,000 tonnes of raw materials
Mobile phones, which can be used to make cheap international calls, can be broken down into materials which can be used to make kettles, benches, dental fillings and even metal musical instruments.
