Dr Who fans call on-screen number
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of price comparison for cheap international calls. Dr Who fans called a fictitious number that appeared on the screen in the penultimate episode of the series in an attempt to find out more about the story line.
As many as 2,500 fans of the show felt the frustration that the characters felt at being unable to reach the time travelling doctor.
The number 07700 900461 flashed on the screen repeatedly prompting viewers to think they were being invited to call it, when in fact it is simply a number that has been reserved for television shows.
Instead of a chronological chameleon, or even the recorded voice of a Dalek, fans got a dead line.
Some vented their frustration on internet message boards.
One wrote: "Grrr - I phoned the Doctor's phone number but there was just an annoying network message."
Perhaps the best way to call someone in a different time zone is to use skinttariffs.com access code to make cheap international calls.
