Illegal downloaders to be educated
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of cheap broadband deals.Broadband users who take advantage of the high speeds of internet access to make illegal downloads to be "educated" about their crimes by one internet service provider.
Virgin Media has taken steps to warn users of its broadband services against using their connection to download copyright-protected audio and video files without permission.
Working in conjunction with the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), which represents record companies in the UK, Virgin media is taking part in a 10-week pilot programme.
The BPI has called on all ISPs to crack down on illegal downloading of copyright material.
Virgin is the only provider to sign up to any measures to curb the activity, but even then, has not been as strict as the industry would like.
Virgin has said that instead of instituting the "three strikes and youre out" policy called for by the BPI, it is sending out letters to "educate" its customers.
