News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of cheap broadband deals. The first cases of someone being sued for libel for their use of Facebook has emerged in London.
A business man has launched a defamation suit against a friend who created a Facebook profile in his name.
Matthew Firsht, managing director of Applause Store Productions is suing his former friend Grant Raphael over a profile named Firsht and a group profile named 'Has Mathew Firsht lied to you?' which was made at Raphaels's home in Hampstead.
The profiles, which Raphael claims were made by strangers at a party at his home, were online for 16 days before they were taken down by Facebook, following a complaint by Firsht's brother.
According to Firsht's counsel, Lorna Skinner, the profiles showed his location, birthday and relationship status and misrepresented his sexual orientation and political views.
It said he was 'looking for whatever I can get' in relationships and showed him as signed up to gay groups.
She claimed Firsht was further defamed by claims that he owed money and that neither he nor his company were to be trusted.
