2.9m use mobile internet
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of price comparison for cheap international calls. About 2.9 million people access the internet via a mobile device, according to a recent survey.
Some 2,000 people around the UK were surveyed by Point Topic, with six per cent saying that they used a mobile device such as a USB broadband connected to a laptop or a mobile phone.
If the figure held across the population, it would be the equivalent of 2.9 million people surfing the web on the move.
The survey also found that the well-off were more likely to access the internet using mobile broadband.
"These are people who have everything," said Tim Johnson, chief analyst at Point Topic. "On the whole they are young, well-paid, well-educated and they own a much wider range of consumer goods than average, particularly digital devices of all kinds."
But, despite what has been called a low uptake so-far, the survey also revealed that 62 per cent would be interested in going online on the move in the future.
Most of the mobile phone network providers offer mobile broadband for both laptops and handsets.
