Internet resource for GPs

Internet resource for GPsNews brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of cheap broadband deals.

The internet is an invaluable resource for students, shoppers, film buffs and music fans, but also for GPs, new research has found.

Nearly two-thirds of GPs in Ireland turn to the world wide web and its information superhighway to find information on how to treat and diagnose patients who present rare medical disorders.

The vast vaults of data on the internet have proven a boon to GPs many of whom have simply not received training on some of the bizarre conditions which they have to treat.

RehabCare research claimed that on the island, north and south of the border, there are 360,000 people who have an unusual condition.

And while doctors may not be prepared to deal with all of them, there are often online groups for sufferers and their families which can give the medics the information they need.

According to RehabCare, there needs to be a support system put into place to treat all the people afflicted by these conditions.
