Mothers with broadband internet access are increasingly turning to the world wide web for advice on parenting, according to a new survey.

Research carried out by Netmums and BT has revealed that parents looking for tips on how to bring up their child, from practical tips on breastfeeding to advice on how to enforce a curfew are going online.

The study suggests that 47 per cent of mothers look for advice on theinternet.

Siobhan Freegard, co-founder of Netmums, said: “The internet is now a well-established lifeline to many mums and this study shows that when they need a sounding-board, they will log on to get support even before they call a family member or their GP."

The survey also revealed that 63 per cent of mothers are heavy users of the internet.

Of those, some 94 per cent claimed to have made money savings by using the web.
