Fuel price rises 'good for internet'
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of cheap broadband deals.The money saving possibilities of the internet could mean that even as soaring oil prices force people to cut back spending, the internet could thrive, according to the vice president of Google.
Speaking at a meeting called by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Vinton Cerf of Google said that high speed broadband could help people cut fuel-related expenditure.
"Although I'm not happy with increased oil prices, the Internet (industry) may actually benefit from that as people turn to it as an aid to improve their efficiency," he said.
Cerf, Googles 'chief internet evangelsit', said that high oil prices "may have a positive impact on the internet".
He also gave examples of how business might use the net to save money.
"We may turn increasingly to video conferencing or other kinds of electronic media in order to avoid having to travel," he suggested.
