Google reveals new mobile software
Google has revealed software that uses movements to allow people to interact with their mobile phone.Speaking at a conference at the Google I/O conference, Steve Horowitz, engineering director of the Google mobile phone operating system Android, demonstrated the technology.
The software can make use of the accelerometer and internal compass on devices such as the iPhone.
One application was to allow users to navigate around pictures simply by turning either the phone or their whole body.
Using the phones browser, Horowitz brought up a view of San Francisco, he then panned around the photo by rotating his body right and left.
He also demonstrated a new way for unlocking a phone which could ensure greater protection from accidentally calling someone from inside ones pocket.
The new system requires the user to connect the dots on the screen.
Android does not support multitouch technology, though could easily and will once manufacturers start shipping devices with the capability, according to Android project leader Andy Rubin.
