Dongle has landed
The mobile broadband modem or dongle is a revolution that feels as if it should already have come, according to the Daily Mail.As people increasingly rely on the internet for activities such as shopping to socialisation, it seems natural that the web should be accessed from anywhere.
However, much-touted Wi-Fi spots have so far failed to cover large areas of the country, let alone the planet, and even when they are available can come with a charge or the obligation of buying a coffee.
By contrast, the dongle works seamlessly wherever there is mobile phone network coverage.
It provides seamless access to the internet, without having to register with a different provider every few metres.
The technology, however, is still relatively young and current speeds of 7.2 mbps look to get faster while download limits could come down in future.
O2, T-Mobile, 3, Vodafone and Orange all offer mobile broadband deals.
